What is Widsom? Or, Which Gun Should I Use?

PR 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom,
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

What is wisdom?  Here's an example of trying to use wisdom - a Kanye West song comes on the radio.  How should you destroy the radio?  With a baseball bat or with a gun?  If you use a gun, which type of gun should you use?  With what type of ammo?  The options are endless.

Almost every situation you're placed in has a bunch of different good options where your decision isn't between doing the right thing and the wrong thing, but two or more right things.  And you have to determine which is the better option.

That's where wisdom comes in.

You might say, "Well all we need is the Bible," well that's good start, but you need to know how to apply it.

The Bible says to discipline your child.  Okay, I got it.  But how should you discipline them?  What type of punishment should they get?  How severe should the punishment be?  How long should they be grounded?

I'm supposed to minister to this person who is hurting.  How should I talk to them?  How long should I let them talk before I say something?  What should I say?  How should I say it?

This asthmatic Sith Lord just cut off my hand and told me that he's my father.  Should I "Honor my Father" by joining him to rule the galaxy as father and son?  Or should I make a goofy face and then jump off this weird wind vane?

Wisdom is simply "knowledge righteously applied".  Which really is a fancy way of saying, picking the best option in a situation.

You are supposed to take Biblical principles and apply them correctly in a situation.

Which pretty much says, if you want wisdom, you first have to start with God's Word, because how can you apply God's Word if you don't know it?

But knowledge of God's Word is only the beginning.  Now you have to apply it.  And that's where you can ask for wisdom.

What's cool is that God says, if you lack wisdom, ask for it.

James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

So get into God's Word AND ask for wisdom.

And when you have wisdom, you'll know that you'll want to shoot the radio with a semi-automatic handgun with 9mm rounds.

PR 2:1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,

PR 2:2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding,

PR 2:3 and if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,

PR 2:4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,

PR 2:5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.

PR 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom,
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

PR 2:7 He holds victory in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

PR 2:8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.

PR 2:9 Then you will understand what is right and just
    and fair--every good path.

PR 2:10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.

PR 2:11 Discretion will protect you,
    and understanding will guard you.

PR 2:12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,

PR 2:13 who leave the straight paths
    to walk in dark ways,

PR 2:14 who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,

PR 2:15 whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.

PR 2:16 It will save you also from the adulteress,
from the wayward wife with her seductive words,

PR 2:17 who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God.

PR 2:18 For her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.

PR 2:19 None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.

PR 2:20 Thus you will walk in the ways of good men
and keep to the paths of the righteous.

PR 2:21 For the upright will live in the land,
    and the blameless will remain in it;

PR 2:22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
