Went to Jacksonville to see the U.S. Men's national soccer team kick Scotland's butt. Unfortunately, obnoxious drunks were in front of us...and the tall one was in front of me so I had to keep looking around his big head. Oh well..it was still fun. People that drink too much and are obnoxious and loud drunks just make it a bit less enjoyable for others.

Been very busy lately, but Liz is done with school, and so is my little brother. I can't believe he is old enough to be going away to college. He started Kindergarten on the first day of my senior year of high school.
In other news, I had not one but TWO interviews last week. I should find out about at least one of them this week. One of them went okay, but the other one went really great and I am very hopeful. Say a little prayer for me.

I'll say a little prayer for you. Classroom is pretty much packed. Soooo tired after all that. I had two parents come and help though so that was nice.

Feeling like crapola. Went to bed yesterday at 4pm and just now got up. And I really would love to be laying in the bed, but even with the temperpedic mattress my back can't take it anymore. So up for now.....will lay back down later.

aww feel better soon! One of my co-workers said she was coughing up blood last night. I don't know why she came to work. We did NOTHING. Left early...tired of sitting around doing nothing. Tomorrow is the last day of work. So glad for summer break/being laid off by these crappy people. Hopefully, can get a job with the public schools since they're taking over the head start grant. Doesn't look too promising for most but I have the advantage of having their education and certification requirement and experience in the program.

Coughing up blood???? Ummmmmm she should go to the hospital! And I am feeling better. Think I just over did it this past weekend.....with a touch of allergies thrown in. Headed to Amarillo this next week to see Carter!!! (oh and liz and shelby too. ) Have some goodies for him! Sorry you got laid off. Here's to a better job in your future!

Yeah, teaching isn't such a stable job anymore. No more tenure in FL. They can only offer one year contracts. I didn't hear her coughing all day, but I don't know why she was there. She should've gone to her doctor. She did take some strong cough medicine. I hope she leaves early today. Last day of work, some mandatory "Training" then lunch...then I hope they let us leave! (They had to call it training to get the lunch paid for)

Is there a stable job anywhere in America???! Oh wait......yea there is......it's called get elected to CONGRESS!!!! Then keep yourself there by making promises to the big companies that are lining your pockets with extra "donations". People may say that it's the president who has all the power. I say nah. Look to your congressmen/women.....THAT'S where the real power is!

Senator for life! I just need to teach in NYC...it's way too hard to get rid of teachers there I hear. Meh, I'm not worried or stressed. I'm just going to enjoy my summer off...and my trip to TEXAS!

The beginning of July. I'll be in Austin area and somewhere between Austin and San Antonio. I have to get all the details from my dad since he planned the trip. Not sure what all we'll be doing.

Seriously! I don't know where else we'll be going. We are taking my car so maybe I can talk the family into going closer to your neck of the woods. Not sure. My sister and brother are flying in on the 3rd. We get in TX on like the 29th or so. Leave after the wedding which is the 8th.

Heard back from both interviews. Didn't get any of those three jobs (there were two at one school); however, one of the principals asked if I would still be interested if another position opened up and she thought that there might be one. I, of course, said yes. That isn't the kind of information that she would have had to volunteer, so here's hoping. I guess that means I was at least close to getting a job.

Hope you hear back from that one! Why is it so hard getting a teaching job darn it!
I still need to spiff up my resume...still have not posted the job I'm looking for. I'm a bit worried I'll be on vacation when they post the jobs and not able to turn in my resume to the schools.

Oh so true Jeff! It's really sad and scary when the education of our children has not only been put on the back burner, but I think now it's been taken off the stove and thrown into the trash! There is not one single school district here where we live that I feel 100 percent confident with putting my grandson in it. The classes are over filled. The teachers are over worked. The disruptive kids get away with almost everything. How can one get an education in an environment like that?

Well that and all the baby boomers aren't retiring like expected because a lot of them can't afford it. I know a lot of teachers in my district are fed up with everything that has been pushed on them and are deciding to retire. When you spend more time doing district/state/national mandated paperwork and reporting than lesson planning and such, there's a problem. I do like summer breaks though...

Oh I hate what has been put upon the teachers! All you hear about here are make sure the children can pass the TAAKS test! How can a teacher TEACH when all day long they must work on preparing kids for a yearly teat? I am a product of the DISD (dallas school district), and received a WONDERFUL education from there. BUT I also am older and my generation wasn't put through the craziness of the TAAKS test. Sure we had achievement tests that we took, but NOTHING like it is today! And I KNOW my education from the district is by far so much better then what your child would receive in today's times! AND I LOVED my teachers!
posted
At least in Michigan (and I'm sure most other places as well) those tests largely exist so the state can influence the curriculum without having to provide additional funding, and then have a reason to reduce their funding when they do poorly on the tests.

Well, it is in part due to No Child Left Behind as well. Because you know, by next year 100% of the students in the nation will be achieving! Or something like that. Part of the reason why I'm in early childhood education...no standardized tests in preschool...yet. Of course, I haven't used the Florida Voluntary Pre-k (VPK) assessment yet. Just "developmental screenings".

The no child left behind is a bunch of crap! If the kid can't hack then they just can't hack it. It should not be viewed as a punishment to have to repeat a grade........some kids just need that extra year. And now with the whole no child left behind......the older kids learn pretty fast that they can just skim by and STILL pass.
And Pete THAT'S prob the biggest problem of the whole picture........seems like NO body of government wants to foot the bill for quality education for our children!
