Jeff you must be happy after the Munchen game yesterday.

Definitely. Gomez got LUCKY with that second goal, but it doesn't matter in the scoreline. Bayern played some tough defense against RM, in spite of the gaffe leading to Ozil's goal.

Also really pleased Chelsea came away with a win against an obviously stronger Barca. Not holding much hope that they beat Messi & co. at Camp Nou, but a noble effort. Barca is going to destroy Chelsea at home.

Chicago plays a winless, pointless Toronto FC Saturday. I pray to God they don't decide to be the first team to give TFC points this year. I've talked to Dan Gargan a number of times since he came to Chicago last season, he's said repeatedly that he loved TFC fans, but that the ownership/leadership there is a trainwreck. Thinking Winter's days are numbered.

Holy cow...Barcelona v. Chelsea...what happened? John Terry must be an idiot or something...that so did not look accidental. When it all looked like it was over, Chelsea scores, Messi misses a penalty and Torres has a "$50 million dollar goal", as one commentator put it. I wouldn't call it that since they were going through regardless of that goal. But it was a nice goal. If they can hold off Barcelona with only 10 men for that long, they deserve to win. I'm not even a Chelsea fan. Dunno how they'll do in the final with injuries/suspensions.
Speaking of teams that deserve what they got, Everton sure held their own against Man United. Wasn't expecting that many goals from them.
This is a fun week so far. Still more games to come!

Bayern vs. Real Madrid was madness. Sergio Ramos with a HUGE miss, as well as Ronaldo. Great back and forth, even though you could tell both sides were really being cautious in extra time. Still can't believe we're looking at a Bayern vs. Chelsea UCL Final. Great stuff.

Yeah, John Terry's knee to Sanchez was lame. If he didn't reach 5 feet to deliver it, he probably would've gotten away with it. And even though they didn't need it, Torres goal was an amazing cap to a pretty tense 2nd half.

If United wants to win the Premiership, they need a result against City. A win would put them 6 points clear, a tie would keep them 3 points clear. IF they lose, City will win the league on goal differences, and I will be enraged.

I am SUPER excited for the CL final now, and I hope Bayern man handles Chelsea. Jeff, what do you do!? This is like the equivalent of a Celtic/United final for me, right?

Totally.

I'm beside myself giddy for so many reasons. Bayern played tough against Real Madrid, didn't back down, and were (mostly) clutch in the shootout. Philip Lahm and Sergio Ramos' PK's though....lol. I think Ramos' is still in flight.

I'm definitely pulling for Chelsea as the underdog, but totally expect Bayern to dismantle them. Home turf for Bayern, plus no Meireles, Ramires, Ivanovic, or Terry will be tough for Chelsea, although I actually think possibly missing Cahill will be a bigger blow than Terry.

That MCFC/MUFC game should be a real cracker of a match. I think MUFC has the obvious advantage, but Man City's doing everything they can to stay in the race. That will be one of those really fun matches to watch, especially since I've got no vested interest in either team. Just good quality football.

Yeah the Manchester game should be fun for anyone...hopefully it won't get too heated and players won't do stupid things. I hope they don't play Balotelli. He just does too many stupid things.
Who will Chelsea play in central defense? Will David Luiz be fit again? I wouldn't completely discount Chelsea doing well in the CL final, I mean no one expected them to beat Barcelona and they did. They've held on this second half of the season. They'll probably whip Liverpool in the FA cup though.

I fully expect them to take out Liverpool in the FA Cup. If Chelsea fall to Liverpool, it will solely be due to their UCL run and just running out of gas. Di Matteo's been able to effectively utilize guys across different competitions though, so through the midfield and striker spots they should be fairly strong. I'm not willing to say Torres goal against Barcelona broke the dam open yet, but a goal like that probably did SO much for his confidence, we could see a different Torres from here on out.

If all are healthy, I think Di Matteo goes Bosingwa, Cole, Cahill, Luiz. Just about his only choice there. Chelsea has been on a crazy-good run lately, I believe they've only dropped one game since Di Matteo replaced AVB.

Balotelli won't play Monday, he's suspended for his antics a few weeks back against Arsenal. I think his MCFC days are done, Mancini would be an idiot to bring him back.

Old Firm match tomorrow at Celtic Park. Even though the league is over (Celtic won it two weeks ago), it should be a cracking good time. Two derbies in one weekend.....I can't stand it!

ah, I thought he was going to be available that game. Guess not. Mancini brought back Tevez when he said he was done, so who knows what will happen. Although, Tevez generally doesn't ascend to the heights of stupidity that Balotelli does. I think it'd be kind of hard to get rid of Balotelli, unless he goes back to an Italian club.

I am on edge today. Very nervous! We must tie or win this game, and win the last two. Sunderland has me a bit edgy, but MC has to play Newcastle and that could be a game they might slip up at. I never underestimate the Toons.

Its a big day. My brother in law is coming over tonight to watch the game w/ me. He's a City supporter. Its gonna be brutal.

I didn't catch the game, but apparently I was WAY off on Balotelli not playing again. FWIW though, I do think he'll end up going back to Italy after the season's over.

Very interesting match Wednesday. Chelsea playing Newcastle, battling it out for 5th on the same day Tottenham plays Bolton. Chelsea NEED a win, not only because it will leapfrog them over Newcastle, but also because the chances are good Tott wins over Bolton. Newcastle's in great form right now though, can't take the game lightly, and they'll still need help from Tott to make 4th in the table.

They just need to win the UCL. Problem solved. lol

haha...sorry Andy. It makes the last 2 games even more intense though! I hope your brother-in-law didn't gloat...too much.
I think if Chelsea do beat Newcastle, then Newcastle will be even more determined to win. They've had a great season. I bet Enrique and Carroll are wishing they might have stuck around. (although, not sure if Carroll had too much of a choice).
I feel bad for Bolton this year, I kind of wanted them to stay up. How the heck is Wigan doing as well as they are at the end of the season? Honestly, considering they whole season I kind of think they should be relegated. But we'll see. I didn't think they'd make it last season either and somehow they did.

My brother in law didn't gloat; he's actually quite worried about the match at St James Park this coming weekend, which makes me glad to see.

Yeah, the players seemed to talk about that one being more worrisome as well. Especially after Newcastle beat Chelsea away. Although, it wasn't the strongest Chelsea line-up. And those were two amazing goals. As the second one left Cisse's foot I was thinking "yeah, like that's going to go in.." then it landed in the corner of the net.

Cisse had GOTY, easily. That goal defied the physical universe.

Props to Newcastle, they've been playing some really good football. That win pretty much solidified Chelsea outside the top 4 in the table. What's going to suck for Newcastle (or Arsenal...or Tottenham, depending on how the last few fixtures play out) will be if whichever team lands in 4th gets bumped off by Chelsea winning the UCL final. While I wouldn't necessarily care if Tottenham or Arsenal got bumped off, I'd almost feel bad for Newcastle, after the run they put together down the stretch. That is IF Chelsea can get past Bayern, which I'm still not convinced they can.

Yeah, that would seriously suck for any team that came in fourth. I think some of them are aiming for 3rd instead. Arsenal might not be able to keep that spot after losing to Norwich.
I'm waiting till tonight to watch the FA cup game so my sister can see it too. I have a feeling she'll be disappointed, but you never know. It's been a crazy season.

I'm actually watching the FA Cup Final on dvr as I type this. I already know how it ended, but I wanted to see the action, especially since I knew the 2nd half would be intense.

Yeah. I realized at the start of watching it that should the game go into extra time or penalties, I did not have that part recorded. hah. Lucky for Chelsea it didn't. Maybe winning the FA cup will help make up for the fact they might not make UCL next season.

Ugh Chelsea. Trounced on Tuesday by Liverpool. Even if it was essentially their "B" squad. Eh. Pretty apparent RDM is putting all his eggs in the UCL Final after Newcastle bounced 'em.

On a slightly related note, I just got a gig writing for Soccer by Ives. So if you're looking for Chicago Fire news, look no further!

Sounds like fun Jeff.

Yeah, I guess the Chelsea game gave Liverpool fans a nicer ending to their season.
I can't decide what game to watch on Sunday since they all play at once. Technically, I could have 3 on at once (one on laptop, two on tv) but that's a bit much I think. Plus, ESPN always tells you the scores for other games anyways.
I'm a bit sad the EPL season is almost over but at least there's the Euro's and MLS.

Okay...almost way too much drama today! I hope not too many man city fans had heart attacks from today's game. Wow though.
I do feel bad for Man united since they thought they had won only to find out city came back to win their game and thus the league.
It's been some season.

I'm not a fan of either team from Manchester, but that City game was unreal. Two goals in stoppage time? Woah.

Yeah, the Man City game was awesome. I'm glad I watched The Man U game first, ESPN was worse than usual with scores this week.

Also, Joey Barton is an idiot. One of his tweets after the match:

"Can do nothing but apologise to the players and the fans. Still don't think its a sending off. Tried to take 1 of their players with me..."

Dude, you elbowed a guy in the face intentionally. You're going to get a red card every time.

When the Stadium of Lights erupted in cheers, I knew exactly what happened. Unbelievable.

Its been a bad day for football. The Union game was too much.

So I went fly fishing.
