Rangers are in the 4th tier, the Scottish Third Division.
Man. This is gonna be BAD for Scottish Football (unless you're a 3rd division team, used to playing for less than 700 people...now you might get the chance to play in front of 45,000).

It seems like the SPL teams didn't really understand what they were getting themselves into. They left their fate in the hands of the SFL who had every incentive to put Rangers in the Third Division and get three seasons out of them before they get back to the SPL.
I can't imagine how the revenue loss won't be dramatic. The current tv deals will surely have to be renegotiated at a substantial discount with three years without an Old Firm match. Every team loses two high attendance games. And attendance may well be down since you already know who's going to win the league for the next three years.

I don't think preseason will be the same with a lot of players from the Euros still out. Ah well. Still nice to have more games to watch. Also, why the heck does Dempsey want to go to Liverpool if he said he wanted to play in the CL? It does make my sister happy though. Looks like a few Rangers players are entering the EPL too.

Liverpool is historically a CL side. Count how many European Cups they've won. More than any other English team. The chances of LP regaining Top 4 form seems more likely than Fulham breaking into the top 4, despite their current runs.

Yes true, but you'd think another top team would have bid for him too. Maybe Liverpool offered the most for him. Or he thought he'd get more action there. Not a bad team to go to (well, at least hopefully they won't be bad this year!)

Yeah, I'm sure they'll shell out more cash by the end of the transfer season. But can they get what they're asking for Carroll? I think I have a new life plan, marry rich oil baron...

I'm heading to Chicago tonight to watch the Fire take on Aston Villa. Not the most exciting match up in the world, but it's all we got this preseason.

Yeah, too bad Liverpool didn't end up there. Although, the Liverpool v. Toronto game wasn't all that exciting so... Stoke city is playing here next weekend and Chelsea and AC Milan are playing in Miami the same day...not going to either game. Especially after the Orange Bowl screwed up ticketing/will call last year when I went to see Newcastle.

The Fire have been HIGHLY unimpressive since Grazzini left the club. 2 goals in 5 league matches, w/ only 1 of those in the run of play. 4 days left in the transfer window and they've barely made a move. The last two months have not been a good time to be a Fire fan.

aww that's too bad. I think I've only watched maybe one Chicago MLS game this year so far? not sure. I haven't watched every MLS game that's been on tv. Olympic soccer is officially started. The GB women's team is probably better than the GB men's team..or at least will probably do better. And the U.S. had a great game against France. Do you think they can make it a 3rd gold in a row? I hope so!

It's nice to see a national team take it to a Spanish national team. Japan could have had so many more goals. MLS all-star v. Chelsea game was fun too.

Well, there goes Spain out of the Olympics. Guess they won't be sweeping all the world competitions this year. They're going to being getting it from the Spanish media. Almost as bad as the Netherlands going out in the Euros. Maybe they can scrape together a draw or win in their last game.

I just watched Liverpool's first competitive match of the season. They played Belorussian side FC Gomel in the Europa League. They looked like a team in preseason. They gave up too many chances and couldn't connect their passes in the final third, but Stuart Downing hit one from 25 yards and they're going back to Anfield up 1-0.
Also, if you have a foxsoccer.tv/Fox Soccer 2 Go subscription be sure to watch the West Ham v Tottenham (06/07) 20 min highlight deal. Insanely awesome game.

I've watched some of the Olympic soccer matches. It feels weird to me to watch the replays without commentary. U.S. women are on track for the gold. I'm going for GB men's team to get some sort of medal. Brazil? psh... I'll probably get back into my soccer/football excitement once the Olympics are finished. Perfect timing too because the Community Shield is like the 12th and then the league starts the following week. yeah! I'll probably be sitting on the couch most of that Saturday watching soccer and recovering from my first few days of having a new class of 3 year olds. The soccer field is near my classroom at school though so I think we might be going there sometimes, even if it's just to run around.

I'm sad GB was beat by Korea. Poor Sturridge missing his PK. He looked really upset, didn't want any of his teammates touching him. And Pierce is so calm and collected all the time. Ah, well..guess the Olympic title is Brazil's to lose.

Anyone watch the women's semi vs. Oh Canada yesterday? Oh my.
The timewasting indirect kick was a horrible call, but the handball's going to get called in the box every. time. in that situation, even if it's ball-to-hand.
Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Abby Wambach? Amazing, all of them.

Guess that post I typed didn't get posted. oops! I think I got distracted by looking up game schedules and wanted to make sure my dvr was set right. The Canada v. U.S. game was great. I watched the replay so I didn't know what was going on with the free kick call. And Megan Rapnioe is doing awesome. I remember her being used mostly as a sub in the world cup last year. Can't wait to see the final (world cup rematch)! Japan was looking not quite their normal strong self at the beginning of the tournament but I think they're doing pretty well now. It shall be a good game.

Well, the men's Olympic final was a shocker. I guess I should have payed more attention to Mexico. Community Shield is tomorrow! Which pretty much means the start of the EPL season! yeah! The Olympics is ending just in time.

I'm leaving for a baseball roadtrip tomorrow, so I won't be able to watch the Community Shield. Maybe later in the week if hotel wi-fi is halway decent. I did watch the second leg of Liverpool's Europa League qualifier. They looked much better this time around. Having Suarez back with Borini and Gerrard is looking like a good combination. And Joe Allen will be in there for the Premier League opener on Saturday.
We drew Hearts for the playoff round so it's looking pretty good to make the group stage.
But the next six days are all about baseball. Six games, seven teams, three cities, over 1000 miles.

wow, that's pretty intense there Pete. Have fun! Community shield was almost a replay of last year, just with a different team and different winner thrown in. Good start for Man City. At least Chelsea have a pretty easy opponent for their opening game next week.

After all that speculation, finally. The nice little salary they're giving him probably helped make up his mind as well. I'm a little sad he's gone though, especially to United. Not sure if Arsenal has quite enough up front. Maybe they'll get Chicharito after all this. He really doesn't get much playing time. And his name is fun to say.

Nice opening weekend. Enjoyed the Newcastle v. Tottenham, Man City V. Southampton, and the Everton v. Man Unt. matches. It may be another sad year though to be a Liverpool fan, only time will tell.

I watched Liverpool v. West Brom, which was dreadful. I thought both of those penalties were a little weak, and I certainly didn't think it was a red for Agger. Hopefully Rodgers gets things turned around soon.
Newcastle was a lot of fun to watch. Ben Arfa and Cisse picked right back where they were at the end of last season and Ba finally scored. Newcastle might have to be my #2 team this year.
I went to watch the replay of Everton v. Man U yesterday and ESPN didn't have it or the Arsenal match available. I hope this isn't how it's going to be. Monday matches were live only last year, but Saturday matches were available for replay.
Also, you can now watch on demand matches on Fox Soccer's mobile app, which is awesome. Before it was only live matches.
