i picked up "anna karenina" today...the pevear/volokhonsky translation...which i've heard is really good. i'm already 30ish pages into it, and it's definitely more easily understandable than the other version i tried to read a few years ago. so yeah, hereby marks my second attempt at the book, but i am determined to finish it this time.

i'm also reading the 4th harry potter, "goblet of fire."

I am reading the Maude translation, which was $2.99 for Kindle and is much nicer to read than the Gutenberg one. The chapters are fairly short so it's been pretty easy to read at least a chapter or two a day so the story and characters stay fresh.

Read "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" by Alan Bradley this weekend. Still working on "The Omnivore's Dilemma". My March reading was definitely much less than my February.

Good one Carroll! I totally bought it.

Habibi was good. The story felt a little disconnected, I didn't think it flowed magnificently with the story tie-ins (from the Bible or the Quran). Still, I enjoy most of his story telling, and I really love his art.

Currently reading from the library:
The Long Valley by Steinbeck
The Red Pony by Steinbeck

and I just requested a bunch of female comedienne books from the library.

Read "I was told there'd be cake" and could have sworn I had read it before, but didn't remember reading it? It was okay.
Also, read the second Flavia de Luce book "The Weed that Strings that Hangman" by Alan Bradley. Liked that one too. Fun little murder mystery with a 10 year old chemistry genius protagonist.
I'm going to call "The Omnivore's Dilemma" finished.
Hope you have the other two Hunger Games books on hand Meghan. Because you'll want to read those right after you finish the first one.

There was an article in the paper about my local libraries pulling those books from the shelf after they discovered what the content was. hah.
Started "The Book Thief" and it's been interesting so far.

finished reading anne lamott's new book, "some assembly required" and am now re-reading "searching for God knows what," by donald miller.

i've been re-reading a lot of my favorite books lately, as i have a terrible memory about the details and even the very subject matter of a book. it's terrible. i'll remember loving it, and yet when somebody asks me what i liked about it, or about the book in general, i'm grasping at straws trying to remember something, ANYTHING, about the book. maybe there's something wrong with my capacity to remember what i read. short term memory problems? scatterbrainedness? the latter is definitely true. anybody else have this problem remembering, after it's been a while since you've read a book, what it's about? ugh. i hate it.

still working on "anna karenina" by leo tolstoy. i really like it thus far. i'm about 300 pages in.

oh and darla, i read (almost all of) "the fountainhead" circa 2003-04(ish) when/after i graduated high school. i did not understand it AT ALL. maybe if i re-read it? it's all about her philosophy regarding objectivism written within a fiction novel and i know it has to do with celebrating selfishness and such, but i really did not "get it." how's it coming along for you? do you like it?

Sometimes I have problems with remembering a lot of things from books. I think sometimes it depends on how focused I am while reading, how long it takes me to read the book, etc. I don't like rereading too many books because there's so many new books I want to read. But I've gone back and read books from my childhood or non-fiction/Spiritual books before.
I'm gearing up for my summer reading! Got two Flavia de Luce mystery books by Alan Bradley and apparently "The Fountainhead" is super long so that will take a while.
As for "The Fountainhead" so far I'm liking it. I wasn't sure if I would but thought I'd give it a chance. Sometimes I don't like more modern novels, especially when they try getting all intellectual. I don't know if I"ll "get it" but if I like it that's all that matters to me.
