Whoa, I can't believe anyone here remembers them. I had that album when it first came out and loved it, but I never converted it to mp3 and the disc got lost somewhere in between my 7 moves since then.
My buddy mentioned something about them a few months ago and so I've been searching for it since then. I finally found a used cd on amazon for a buck. It's definitely one of the most under appreciated late 90's emo/post hardcore albums.

Yeah, a good friend of mine was a roadie for Elliott during their tour with 6 going on 7. He got me into them, and gave me a tape of their stuff. I still have that tape, but never picked up the cd.

Interpol- Turn on the Bright Lights The Spirit That Guides Us- North and South (based off of 1/3 recommendation; they sound nothing like I thought they would)
Books: Donald Miller- Greatest Hits: Through Painted Deserts; Searching for God Knows What; Blue Like Jazz A Tale of Two Cities- Charles Dickens
I'm gonna read Through Painted Deserts, and then likely give the book as a gift to someone.

Is that good or bad? You should also be aware that most of their material isn't as accessible as North And South.

It feels like I'm about 3 years late to this, but apparently it has only been out since 2007. But today I encountered Danielson: A Family Movie as a previously viewed title for sale at Movie Gallery for $4. I've been wanting to see this for ages, and leapt at the opportunity to buy it. Like, as a college student I haven't been buying much music-related, so I never went out and hunted this down, even though I'd consider Danielson/Famile to be in my top 10 artists all time. So it was a really happy occasion for me to randomly, surprisingly find this.

I think that it's neither. I like it, but I was blown away by how non-blown away I was. It sounded like moderately good screamo music with more complicated structures and more thoughtful lyrics (kind of like newer Thrice with less experimentation). For some reason I was expecting something more metal and more progressive (since you tend to like such stylings the most), and I also expected your favorite band to sound more unique (not that they aren't in more subtle ways, but not in the obvious way I expected).
It bodes well for me to like their other material more if this is them at their most accessible, since the more experimental side will appear in other records.
I doubt I'll go out of my way to find other stuff by them, but if I find them in the used section for $5 again, I'll gamble again.

Give it some more time. I'm not saying it will become your favorite album or anything, but give it more time. Also, I've been listening to proportionally less metal these days. It's nice to listen to, but I don't find it artistically inspiring. Prog rock might actually fit into that too.

When I said most accessible, I didn't really mean that they are normally more experimental. North And South might actually be the band at their peak of experimentation so far.
Also, have you heard This Beautiful Mess? Their album Temper the Wind to the Shorn Lamb is an essential part of your collection whether you're currently aware of it or not.

I'm not into screamo, metal or prog rock much anymore. I like the records I really loved when I liked those styles decently, but there were a whole slew of records I liked a lot from those genres that all sound the same to me now (I'm really glad I never bought that many metal records).
I'll check out more stuff by that group, but if that's them at their experimental peak, eh... I will say that I liked what I heard from their lyrics though. I'll check out This Beautiful Mess too.
