Reader, Adam Winters, sent this bit of news to me. Indie/Rock/Alt band Cool Hand Luke has posted in their blog on why they haven't been playing shows lately. They're going through some tough times including their bassist getting 3rd degree burns (the worst kind) and needed skin grafts.

Finally, Some news
Quite a lot has happened over the past few months. Many of you have been praying for us, sending us letters and messages, and asking how things are going. I can't even begin to tell you how thankful we are for the response to our needs. None of us knew what to expect, but it has been nothing but positive and exceedingly encouraging. I've learned a lot about God's provision and faithfulness.
We have only played a handful of shows since September. It seldom feels like I'm even in a band because our lives have been consumed with working and figuring out how to make ends meet. We have only rehearsed twice since August because we don't have a rehearsal space anymore. We played a couple of shows at the beginning of the year, and thanks to your prayers and support and God's provision, we were able to drive to these shows in our NEW VAN! (New meaning 1999.) Unfortunately, on our second day on the road, the new van broke down in Panama City. It cost more than half of what we paid for it to get it fixed, but thanks (again) to your prayers and support and God's provision, we were able to get it fixed. We all just had to laugh about it.
A couple of weeks after we got home, tragedy struck. Casey, our bass player, was badly burned in a grease fire whilst attempting to make doughnuts. He had third degree burns on his left hand and arm and on his feet. He was in the hospital for almost a week and had to have skin grafts. If that isn't bad enough, he doesn't have health insurance, so he's got some pretty steep medical bills. We'll be letting you know how you can help with that if you want to.
"Cool Hand" jokes, flame tattoo jokes, and "Fires of Life" jokes aside, Casey's accident has rendered him unable to play bass for a while. So we've been taking a break and trying to figure out what's next. In the meantime, I will be playing a few shows by myself, starting next weekend in Columbia, SC. My good friend Aaron Roche will be playing with me as well. These shows will have a unified purpose and a greater focus on speaking and sharing some ideas that God has given me. More on that soon. No, I'm not going solo. And, no, we aren't breaking up.
Finally, we can say that 2008 will see the release of the new Cool Hand Luke record, "The Sleeping House". Details to come.
We love and appreciate each of you. We are very aware that we would not be able to continue doing this without your prayers and encouragement. We all feel extremely blessed. I'll try to keep in touch.
Mark Nicks
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon
you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon
you and give you peace.
