(Emery)
Change is hard but so is continuity. Emery has balanced both challenges well over the 10 years they have been fortunate enough to play music together. The band has shrunk from it’s original 6 piece lineup causing remaining members to take on more responsibility. Downsizing though has tastefully matured the overall sound through the last 4 CDs. Sadly the band was dealt a hard blow yesterday as Devin Shelton (a founding member and one of Emery’s two frontmen) announced he was going on an indefinite hiatus from Emery. Member loss is always relevant but this time around it’s especially relevant. From the bands inception they have been known for dual lead vocals and intense battles between Toby (the other frontman) Devin, and Josh (screams and keyboard) building choruses and live crowds to a fever pitch. Though Matt (lead guitar) is adding his vocals to mix it won’t be the same Emery without Devin, but thankfully it will still be good. How do I know? Click here and hear their latest single then tell me that ain’t music to your ears. If anyone wants to read Devin’s official hiatus post click here.
I’ve been giving out a lot of free music and it’s been nice to see musicians who can sacrifice that much for the love of their craft. Today I can share a free tour with you. Yes that’s right free. It only makes sense Showbread would be starving artist to do it too. They just made us a free CD and now they’re going on tour to play for us for free. It’s sounds to good to be true, but thankfully it is true. Head here to see the dates and venues.
Well it’s always a great feeling to finish this blog. Even though it’s fun, writing is hard work. That said I’m so glad I’m able to write for Decapolis. It’s such a blessing. Thank you folks for tuning in once again. You all have a wonderful week.
Sincerely Yours, Toby
