California's xDeathstarx exhibits all the typical hardcore elements; ear-splitting guitar parts, double bass to raise the dead, and hardcore toughguy sing-a-long anthems and breakdowns. And when you have three vocalists, who's really going to mess with you?
"We Are The Threat", Deathstar's debut release on Facedown Records, and fourth outing overall, is reminiscent of what most would call thugcore nowadays from the very first track. Musically in step with Integrity, 25 Ta Life, and Terror, Deathstar throws down some hardcore riffs that, while not incredibly groundbreaking, are intense and well versed, without an over-abundance of Johnny Hardcore chugga-chugga breakdowns. Lyrically, they tackle a variety of topics and subjects, and point their songs at everyone from the world outside to fellow believers. While some of the lyrical content was slightly reminiscent of typical hardcore-speak, most of what is said on the album actually puts the listener more in the mind of classic Spirit-filled HxC anthems, ala Six Feet Deep, Focused, and Unashamed.
While Spirit-filled hardcore takes on a bit different face these days, it is apparent that Deathstar is passionate about carrying the torch of positivity, an unapologetic attitude, and a no-holds-barred attitude of showing their listener the Light that stands out in the darkness.
