How can one pray continually? Is that like never saying “Amen” and going on and on and on? “I pray for mommy and daddy and grandma and second cousin Susie, and Neo and Trinity and Morpheus, and their operator guy from Lost who yells “Waaaalt!” all the time, wait, I’m not done, I need to pray continually”?
“Thank you for this first piece of bacon that I am about to eat. Thank you for this second piece of bacon… Thank you for this fourth pound of bacon I am about to eat.”
Of course that’s not what it means. So what does it mean?
It means having a close relationship with God — one where you understand His presence and your reliance on Him. Just pretend that you have God on your cell phone and you’re using a Bluetooth headset. It would be rude to have someone on the phone and never talk to them.
But let’s say you’re driving to get groceries, and you have God on the phone, you’d keep the conversation going by saying stuff like, “God, thanks for this car. Please keep me safe on the road. Thank you that I actually use my turn signal, unlike those pagans.”
Then when you get to the grocery story, you’d be all like, “Thank you for the resources to buy this food, thank you for Frosted Flakes, thank you the coupons I was able to find, thank you that I’m not like this guy in front of me who is wearing socks with slippers.”
Praying continually is a mindset. Know that God is right there. He is there to praise and thank for everything you go through and He is also right there to ask for His help through everything you go through. God is on the phone, don’t ignore Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray continually.
Take Time To Pray: Ask God to help you keep a mindset of prayer.
