If for some reason you want to learn about what Decapolis does, I’ll try to answer some of the more general questions here. I’m going to refer to myself in the third person, so it might seem a bit weird.
Why was Decapolis Started?
In May 1999, Conrad started Decapolis as an offshoot of a message board of a band (Ghoti Hook) he was in. Interspersed with the chatter of music, movies and general topics, Conrad found himself answering many of the same spiritual questions repeatedly. He then decided to have the answers to these questions residing permanently on the web. What brought the initial community together was their love of music and their love of God. Conrad kept this foundation and started Decapolis, which focused on this type of audience. That is why you’ll find spiritual resources right along with music news and reviews.
What is the Goal of Decapolis?
Because the majority of our audience shares an interest in faith and of music, Decapolis attempts to provide a place where these people can congregate, fellowship, keep up to date with music and find the answers to their spiritual questions. The ultimate goal is to affect our audience (Christian and non-Christian) in a spiritually positive way by providing spiritual resources for Christians to grow in their faith and for non-Christians who might be seeking out what Christianity believes.
Who runs Decapolis?
Conrad is the founder and primary writer. He writes all the devotionals and has great abs.
Tell me more about this “Conrad” and how I can be more like him.
Conrad, the founder of Decapolis, was in the band Ghoti Hook from 1991-1997. He sold a bunch of records (around 60,000), went on some national tours in a van that can be described as a “death trap.” He graduated from George Mason University with a degree in the exciting field of accounting. Living life on the edge, he then got his CPA license. Then he got his Masters in Christian Thought from Chesapeake Theological Seminary. He likes Nintendo and science fiction movies. He lives in Harrisburg, PA and drives a black Camry that is always dirty. He owns and runs a studio creatively called Decapolis Labs where he makes “music to make the whole world sing.” He wears navy blue a lot and hates any song that rhymes “girl” with “world.”
What are other things Decapolis is involved in?
Besides being an internet magazine, Decapolis also is involved in the production of music and sporadically puts out records and has a recording studio in the Harrisburg, PA area.
Where is Decapolis based out of?
Harrisburg, PA. It’s the capital of Pennsylvania. The roads are terrible and have no merge areas.
What does Decapolis mean?
It’s from a Greek word meaning “Ten Cities.” Deca means “ten” as in Decathalon (Ten Events), and Polis as in “city,” like Indiana-polis. Even though Conrad found that word in the Bible, there’s no real reason why he chose it other than “it sounded cool.”
