"The dimension of imagination." This is pioneers Bruce Haack and Esther Nelson's interpretation of the 5th dimension. It was in this spirit that the duo founded Dimension 5 record label. Both of the men had a passion for children and ended up creating almost a dozen children’s records in a 20 year span.
Now fast forward to the present. The people at Eenie Meenie Records got a spark somewhere and decided to release a compilation album featuring their artists performing some early Dimension recordings. According to the label, "the Dimension 5 sound is as fresh and exciting today as it was thirty years ago." 22 Eenie Meenie artist then all recorded at least one song for the album. Musically, the sound is without a doubt unique. It sounds a lot like prehistoric techno. Yes...prehistoric techno.
Since Haack and Nelson wrote songs for kids, the lyrics on the compilation are obviously geared to a younger generation. So people older than the age of 10 won't find much meaning in these words. Though they do offer some laughs and amusement in general.
It would be easy for me to just take the music at face value and give this a 1 or a .5 star rating. That said, I found it somewhat engaging to listen to such a weird brand of music that is different from anything else out there. You have to take the era at which this music was created into consideration. These two men were definitely pioneers in the electronic music industry. Another plus is that the proceed from this record benifit Autistic children.
The bottom line is if you are looking for something exotic and want to help fight autism, then "Dimension Mix" is up your alley.
