Kitchens and Bathrooms, the
Hamilton, Ontario math rock trio, went into the studio to record a mellow CDEP
and came out with their third full-length album, Vehicles Beyond. On their
newest offering they have thrown aside their distortion pedals and focused more
on sensitivity and song structure, making it a much easier listen than their
earlier releases. Now, don’t get me wrong, they haven’t completely changed their
sound, there are still plenty of shifting time signatures, great vocals, and
angular guitar chords, things are just slowed down a bit. Vehicles Beyond will
probably disappoint many fans that loved the energy of their Utter A Sound
debut, but it will also gain them some new fans. This is a decent album and I
would recommend it if you like very mellow Braid, June of 44, or even Q and not
U.
