This is probably the biggest over hyped album I have ever seen. Here are some of the reviews that came along with this album
“Lilliam Berlin is Johnny Rotten with politics” - Village Voice
“ One of the most ferocious straight-ahead rock albums since Nevermind” - Spin
“What rock’n’roll should be sounding like” - NME
“It’s been a long long time since rock music felt even remotely dangerous. But along come Living Things. Three brothers from St. Louis who mash out an anarchic collision of power chords and screaming vocals that feel like a bottle breaking near your head. With the simplicity of the Ramones and the fury of Nirvana. Living Things would be just a blast of adenoidal angst were it not for their politics” - INTERVIEW
Let me say this off right off the bet to these reviewers. How dare you. Seriously. I have listened it to this album over and over and what are you listening to that I don’t hear. You’re going to compare a sub par rock outfit with the likes of The Ramones, Sex Pistols and Nirvana? Why don’t you just put them up with the Beatles as well? Musically, the album belongs back (except for some modernization) in the 1960’s and 1970’s. They would remind me of the MC5’s except that the MC5’s were really good and their political stances were a lot more thought out and relevant. If they were around back in that era, they would fall in the middle of the pack. They would be just another yelling voice in a stadium full of screaming bodies. They are really boring and they aren’t power chord driven. I don’t hear any influences from the bands they are being compared to.
I find nothing dangerous about this album. These reviews act like they live under a rock and haven’t gotten into anything remotely underground since the early 1980’s with the punk explosion and thus have fallen asleep until Nirvana woke them up and then went right back to sleep. Politically…where do I start? It seems rather popular now to be political. I love political bands. It adds substance to the lyrics but please don’t act like this band is the Noam Chomsky of the rock world. Their political side seems like they read a few books and went to college for a semester and took a political science class and now they are political think tanks. Yeah, you’re against war. Wow, so is half the country. You don’t like Bush because of the war and other things…wow! So is half the country. Is there anything else on your mind? Oh, you hate war again and wait wait…you are against organize religion. Wowzers, you are really stretching your political view. This is why I love bands like Boy Sets Fire because they will sing about NAFTA, political situations in other countries, Leftist politics and how they shoot themselves in the foot, rape, domestic abuse, campaign finance…they don’t leave anything unturned. Hearing some sub par band sing about the same old same old is like kissing my sister.
This is the most over rated and over hyped album I have ever heard. You should really be ashamed of yourself. I am really just thinking that you got paid to say those words. Is JIVE Records slipping you something under the table? Or are they under the table giving you something? Please don’t tell me that you were completely honest.
