Marigold features former This Day Forward standout Vadim Taver (vocals and guitar), who also did a side project with Josh Jakubowski of Hot Cross called Superstitions Of The Sky. If you are looking for the heavy sound of This Day Forward, keep on looking. Marigold takes a huge leap into a sound that I haven't heard in years. They jump right into the Sunny Day Real Estate arena. It isn't the Diary sound but more of the sound from the Self Titles (pink album). I was never a fan of anything from SDRE after Diary so I can see my view point being a tad bias. I don't think Vadim vocals are strong enough to carry the sound that they are going for. I find it out of place at some points throughout the album. Their sound is very good but the vocals find a way to kill some of the music. Overall, the album would put a huge smile on some SDRE fans but I don't think it's gritty or powerful enough to carry my interest. At times they show their power and passion, especially in the song Footsteps. It's not a horrible album, don't take that away from my opinion. It has some really great songs but it's just not enough for me.
