One of my favorite albums last year was Miles Away's S/T debut. It was one of the best hardcore albums of last year. In a wicked fast turn around, Miles Away pushed out their second release in as many years with "Consequences". There are some differences between the two albums but they stay true to their sound which is melodic hardcore. They have less crew vocals and less breakdowns but less is more and in this case it's true. They have gone to a more fast paced and straight up hardcore format but still keeping the melodic framework in place. In the days when pop and metal seem to be infecting hardcore left and right, Miles Away decided to grab onto the roots of hardcore and ride them for all they are worth.
It is amazing that a hardcore band from Australia (of all places) could just be so good. I would have never expected it. I can't wait until the day when I get to see them live for the first time. I know the year is young but this album will be on my top ten list at years end. The one thing that brings this album to a new level, for a personal level anyway, is the fact that Miles Away decided to put a cover song on this album. They covered a rather unknown hardcore band from New Jersey called Turning Point. They are unknown if they are put up against the bands of their time like Judge, Bold, Gorilla Biscuits etc. Miles Away covered Turning Point's "Broken". It is their best song and one of my top five all time favorite hardcore songs. They do a very good job of capturing the song but also being album to keep it in their own sound. This is what makes this album so special to me.
