WOW! That is the first word that comes to mind after my first listen on The Loved Ones first full length album. You would never expect this pop punk sound from the background of this band. It features members of The Curse (a band that broke up WAY before they should have), Kid Dynamite and Trial By Fire. The Loved Ones released a self titled EP last year on Jade Tree and it was one of my favorite EP's of last year. I have been waiting for their full length for months now and it's finally here and it was well worth the wait.
It's pop punk the way that pop punk is supposed to be played. It's pop influenced punk and not the other way around. It is unlike any other pop punk band you have ever heard. It's not generic and it's not watered down. It's not for MTV. It bridges genre gaps. I mean by that it's pop punk that hardcore kids, "emo" kids, and punks can all cling onto. It's a rare treat that brings a smile to my face and a bounce to my legs.
This album has two special treats on it for all who listen. It contains a new version of the song
100K, which was on The Loved Ones EP. It also contains a new version of The Curse's song
Benson And Hedges, which is my favorite Curse song. This by far my favorite release of the year that I have been able to review. It's perfect. Get it! This is for fans of Kid Dynamite, Discount, older Green Day and Strike Anywhere.
