Cornerstone, the Super Bowl of the Christian Rock fests, just ended. For those of you who don't know, the Cornerstone Music Festival is like Woodstock, but with all Christian market bands. So you have tens of thousands of people all camping over the course of five days with a dozen stages and literally hundreds of bands.
Decapolis runs one of the many stages. We do what's called a label showcase. Labels contact me and get their bands to play on the Decapolis stage. The Decapolis stage ran for three days with twenty-eight bands. We had bands that ranged from hardcore, punk and metal to alt-country, acoustic and electronic.
On the stage, I also have be to stage manager. Which basically means, I have to make sure the bands stay on time and no one does anything stupid. This was the first year I did not have one problem with any band. Not to say every band was nice, but no one threw a rock-star fit over anything. Neither did I have a problem with any of the audience. This might had to have more to do with the stage was about thirty feet off the ground so no one could get up on stage, much less stage dive.
Before the music would get started for the day we had a time for devotional/Bible studies for guys, led by me, and for girls, led by Julia. Julia went over purity, forgiving yourself and how to love someone who is caught in sin. I went over figuring out one's calling, dating/marriage and salvation theology. Also, during the bands I had a couple slots set aside for my seminars (Secular Music?, How Do I Live by Faith?, What is My Calling?, How Do I Determine God's Will?.) I love doing the seminars and devotionals. Julia and I appreciate all of you who bothered making it out for any of these things.
So my next posts will cover the Decapolis Awards for Cornerstone 2006 and I'll also post some pictures about the Divebomber show. Here's a little teaser for my write up on the Divebomber show… we had the entire audience waving their hands side to side while we got them to sing a Creed song. Yes. It was amazing.
Thanks to all the Cornerstone people, John Herrin, JD, Christopher, Trevor, Sally. My Decap-volunteers: Melissa, James, Robert, Cal, and Evan. The video crew: Matt, Eric and Emily. The Divebomber crew: Christopher, Michael, Emily and Reid. And most of all Julia for making this one of the best Cornerstones ever.
Stay tuned. Evan Stanek, Cal Callison and I will have more coverage to come with pictures.
