It's that time again. Here's my write up on the best bands that appeared on the Decapolis Stage at Cornerstone 2007. I have to stage manage the stage so I pretty much have to watch all these bands and fortunately there were some good ones.
Decapolis Awards 2007: Best Bands on the Decapolis Stage.

1. The Myriad
Okay, this almost doesn't count because they should have played main stage. The Decap stage is mainly for up-and-coming bands. It's like having a pro team play a college team. They are by far the best band that's not totally huge in the Christian market. They have great Jeff Buckley type vocals with super-creative guitar parts, great bass part and completely solid and catchy songs. Live they were perfect. You get that? Perfect.
2. The Winston Jazz Routine (The Record Machine)
Geez. I really wanted to make them #1, but The Myriad had to go play my stage. It's a bunch of college students that writes intimate, creative, interesting, piano centric music. They came in at #5 on my list last year, so they're movin' on up. You just can't recreate the dynamics of a live show in the studio so if you can catch them live, please do.

3.
Flatfoot 56 (
Flicker Records).
Man, talk about energy. Old school punk. The crowd was nuts. It's all what you'd want a punk show to be - positive, fun, loud, energetic.
4. Luminate
I'd never heard of this band, but they put on an authentic, heart-felt show. I really enjoyed their show.
5. Write This Down
A hard rock yelling band. But they weren't all mean faces, they actually were having fun on stage. Yeah, they'll be huge cause it's just what the kids like to listen to now - melody with screaming every so often. Great, energetic, fun show.
6. Deas Vail (Brave New World Records)
I didn't catch their whole set, but their music is really good. Alternative ambient rock-ish.
7. Future of Forestry (Credential Recordings).
To be fair, I didn't actually get to see Future of Forestry cause I was taking to someone the whole time, but I could hear them in the background so I had to check out their myspace and their first song is great. The lead singer is Asian, so they must be awesome.
Since it was a label showcase let me list the labels that where I met the dudes from the labels (who were all super nice). Please check out these cool labels:
Flicker Records, Credential, Brave New World, The Record Machine.
So congrats to The Myriad and The Winston Jazz Routine for winning Best Bands on the Decapolis Stage.
